American Heart Association Intern, Development & Community Events-Long Island, NY in Melville, New York

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, including volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, and community partner networking/connection.

Internship Overview

  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 1/16/24 – 5/3/24

  • Hybrid-Intern must live in the Melville-Long Island, NY area

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Work with Event Coordinators, Development Directors, and Executive Directors to support event planning and logistics.

  • Assistance with pre-campaign planning, day of event execution, and post-campaign wrap-up projects.

  • Develop collateral material for events including save the dates, invitations, and programs.

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and management.

  • Email and call event-related external 3rd party vendors, volunteers, donors, and constituents.

  • Social media & email planning and creation.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated with a Major or Minor in Event Management, Hospitality Management, Convention Management, Special Events, and tourism Management, or other related degrees.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and Canva.

  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments.

  • Comfortable making cold calls to donors and potential supporters.

  • Strong leadership experience.

  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi Connection.

  • Ability/willingness to travel locally; have a means of reliable transportation.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs./wk., M-F between the hours of 8:30 am- 4:30 pm. Availability in person at our Melville office on Tuesday and/or Thursday is most preferred.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
