The American Heart Association has a superb opportunity for a Human Resources Director (HR Director) in our Midwest region. This individual will function as a business partner and advisor to leaders and employees in the development and implementation of human resources strategies and solutions that align with the Association goals and will also lead HR programs and regional learning and development activities, including leadership development and creating and facilitating virtual region-wide trainings. This position can be home-based anywhere within our 13-state region.

The Midwest region includes: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to employees within assigned organizations throughout the employee’s lifecycle, i.e. conduct check-in calls, assist with creating development plans, process departures

  • Advise employees and managers on various Human Resources programs and procedures, inclusive of responsibilities in the following functional areas: onboarding, employee relations, employee engagement, organizational development, and talent succession.

  • Utilize key HR metrics, data, and reports including lifecycle, employee engagement, and pulse surveys to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in culture, leadership, processes and practices.

  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying barriers to performance; implementing and evaluating coaching/development strategies; mentor and counseling managers and employees

  • Create and facilitate virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings.

  • Lead assigned region-wide HR projects and programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives including but not limited to the regional New Staff Orientation program and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts.

  • Participate in cross functional projects and maintain strong partnerships with other HR functions – Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, HR Operations, and Total Rewards

  • Other duties as assigned within functional/knowledge area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, SPHR/PHR preferred.

  • Three (3) years of proven experience.

  • At least two (2) years’ experience providing employee and leadership coaching.

  • Training facilitation experience preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; effective interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to and influence individuals at all levels.

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, maintaining compliance, and ensuring adherence to internal policies/procedures.

  • Exceptional Microsoft Word and Excel skills.

  • Ability to complete and manage a variety of tasks/projects, particularly when faced with competing demands and priorities.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% local and overnight.
