Responsibilities

Attorneys on our team work across a broad array of legal matters, and as such must bring with them a solid and diverse base of experience. In this role, you will be responsible for exercising knowledge in all “legal” trades by providing sound legal advice, opinions, services, and documents to support the decisions, plans and activities of National Center staff and departments. This position is located at the National Center of the American Heart Association.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide general legal support for across a range of programs and departments

  • Research legal issues and prepare legal opinions

  • Build effective relationships with our key players in the business units

  • Attend strategic meetings, providing legal input and guidance to your Legal teammates on intakes received related to a specific business area

  • Interpret, draft, revise, negotiate, and approve form contracts, leases, intellectual property licenses and other legally binding instruments.​

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related experience as an Attorney in contract drafting and negotiation with working knowledge of intellectual property law, regulatory compliance issues, employment law, technology security issues, and health law

  • Experience working as an Attorney with in a Corporate Legal Department

  • Analytical thinking and preparing clear and concise documents, and proven skill at legal research and drafting.

  • Effective oral and written communications, negotiating, and interacting with persons at all levels in the AHA, business, government and the public.

  • Working with diverse clients and a substantial workload while providing timely and relevant legal support with the ability to meet established deadlines

  • Interact with internal and external legal customers positively and effectively
