The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Database Designer .

The responsibility of the Database designer is to Identify, establish, and recommend data mapping and design strategies to standardize and harmonize large clinical datasets (including both clinical trials, observational studies, and real-world data) from American Heart Association studies and registries as well as other large data sets.

(This is a grant funded position with funding through 6/30/2028. Funding likely to extend)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement guidelines to manage data storage

  • Design and follow data security best practices in data storage, sharing and reporting

  • Plan for Data Disposition in American Heart Association Health Care x Food Secure Data Storage and working with Association staff to develop a plan for subsequent public access

  • Set up requirements on data format and labeling, meta-data generation such as code book, Case Report Forms, Surveys, EHR queries and other data project documentation process.

  • Develop guidelines for presentation to individual research teams for Data Analytics workflow including data intake and handoff. Refine guidelines following discussion with individual project teams

  • Provide training on use of claims and/or clinical trial data as needed through group webinars made available to all project teams

  • Creates visual and tabular (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) representations of data.

  • Maintains mastery of cardiovascular knowledge through reading science literature, establishing and maintaining professional consultation contacts, attending meetings, monitoring legislation, and attending to inquiries from public and professionals.

Qualifications

  • PhD or doctoral degree or other post graduate education (MPH, MS, etc.

  • 8 years of Clinical or research experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience, data science, or related fields

  • 8 years of staff position experience in not for profit, academic and/or government sectors or an active committee/ Board/ officer member in a professional member society

  • Superior writing & communication skills with a publication history in peer reviewed journals

  • Superior collaboration and group management skills

  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple long- and short-term projects concurrently

  • Ability to understand, integrate and summarize scientific literature.
