The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President of Science Marketing based out of our National Center office! This position can be remote/home based but must reside near a major airport.
This individual will be responsible for establishing a marketing strategy and operational plan to increase AHA Professional, Clinician, and Researcher membership, in both revenue and number. Responsible for crafting a vision of bringing science to life in new and engaging ways that drive deeper relationships with a digital first approach. Responsible for analyzing target audiences, their motivations, and behaviors to understand and apply insights in the development of virtual membership programming, pricing, and perceived value. Also responsible for crafting multi-channel strategies that will attract new member revenue and retain current member participation. Also, responsible for oversight of adjacent value delivery mechanisms like Lifelong Learning or Continuing Medical Education, experiential platforms like Scientific Sessions and the International Stroke Conference and growing the visibility of scientific breakthroughs and emerging science via professional and consumer-facing media in partnership with adjacent AHA marketing and communications teams.
Develops, communicates, and advises planning and implementation of multi-channel marketing activities to engage AHA's Professional Members, and achieve Lifelong Learning, Scientific Publications, Sessions (events and conferences) and Research objectives
Leads development and communication of short-term and long-term strategic plans to attract and engage professionals, clinicians, and researchers. Defines marketing success, including specific goals, relevant metrics, and methods for reporting plan achievement
Builds powerful partnerships with Science Operations business leaders and Integrated Marketing and Communications colleagues to deliver product improvements and defined marketing gains
Serves as target audience, content, and messaging professional for marketing techniques. Identifies standard methodologies and trends for improving market penetration for all AHA’s professional audience
Empowers marketing staff to be directly accountable for effective and efficient implementation of multi-channel marketing strategies, plans and activities. Encourages innovation and cultivates a culture of continuous improvement
Facilitates and engages volunteers on multiple levels to demonstrate applicable expertise and leadership skills to benefit AHA membership and marketing activities

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
Twelve (12) – Sixteen (16) years of proven experience
Experience in marketing and communications with proven success in membership programs, preferably in the not-for-profit or association sector. Consistent track record of building and leading marketing teams
Experience in strategic planning. Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal sales skills
Comprehensive understanding of and experience in applying the principles and practices of statistical analysis, program evaluation, automated systems development projects, data analysis and data management
Ability to analyze data and interpret into narrative form
Ability to conduct presentations to a various level of professional audiences
Ability to work optimally with staff and volunteers at all levels of the organization
Ability to think logically and tackle problems
Ability to read, comprehend and interpret policies and procedures governing research programs and to apply these policies in various situations
Ability to travel up to 30% locally and overnight stay
Senior management experience with dynamic responsibility to explore and identify new revenue sources as well as accountability for a budget of up to $1 million
Familiarity with membership programs, publishing, and online education technology/platforms and innovative education practices is helpful
Proven track record in planning, budgeting, assigning, advising, coordinating, and reviewing work
